As a kid I wondered about the lives of the ancients
when I would visit the Field Museum.
I hoped my things would end up in a museum one day
so I took great care to preserve my possessions.
I realized that practice turned objects into art.
Art I didn’t use.
Now I use everything.
If it ends up in a museum, it’ll have my stains, my rips.
That’s what goes in a museum.
The record of a life lived.
Wear your shoes. Your footprints show you were there.
Use your tool. The wear will show it was Loved.
Put on your cashmere sweater. Snags are part of life.
Drop your carved rock. Now you have two.
Use your pipe. The best stories are told around a fire.
Spray your cologne; you can refill your bottle.
